7 knee-jerk
•• Knee jerk an involuntary forward jerk or kick induced by a light blow or sudden strain upon the patellar tendon of the knee that causes contraction of the quadriceps muscle (Webster’s Third New International Dictionary).
Time: De Becker urges battered wives to flee but argues eloquently against the knee-jerk use of temporary restraining orders.
